The single most common mistake visitors make in Barcelona is turning up to a club at eleven at night and finding an empty room. Nothing is wrong. You are simply four hours early.
Barcelona runs on a later schedule than almost anywhere else in Europe, and the whole evening is built around it. Dinner is late, bars fill late, and clubs do not properly start until well after one in the morning.

Why arriving early still makes sense
Knowing the room fills at two does not mean you should show up at two. Several Barcelona clubs price entry by arrival time: cheapest just after midnight, more expensive by one in the morning, with the same drink included either way.
So the calculation is not when the club is busiest, it is when you want to have paid. Arriving early costs less and lets you get a feel for the place before it is shoulder to shoulder.
The other reason is more important. The hours before the club are where you meet people. A bar at eleven is a conversation. A club at three is not. Whoever you walk into the club with is almost entirely decided in the two hours beforehand.

Friday and Saturday are busier, more expensive, and the queues are longer. If you have flexibility in your trip, a Wednesday night out in Barcelona is often the better experience and it is certainly the cheaper one.
